Local company teams up with National Geographic for adventure on the Chilkoot Trail and Yukon River and lands on the cover of the Magazine.

Last summer a team from National Geographic Adventure Magazine joined Alaska Mountain Guides and Climbing School, Inc of Haines in recreating Author Jack London's route to the Klondike Gold Fields in 1897/98.

The group hiked for 3 days on the Chilkoot trail and then paddled over 400 miles by canoe to the gold rush town of Dawson City in the Yukon. Along the way they explored relics from the Klondike Gold Rush and researched the country that Jack London often wrote about.

Darsie Beck, a director of Alaska Mountain Guides, guided the group on the river for 12 days. " It was a great trip, the country is stunning, the team members fantastic, and it was personally rewarding. My great grandfather did the same trip in 1897/98, and here I am 100 years later."

The efforts of writer Geoff Norman and Photographer Barry Tessman put the article on the cover of the May / June 2001 issue of National Geographic Adventure Magazine. The article titled "London Calling" starts on Page 68 and can also be viewed by clicking Here.
